Above is an evolution timeline of all the desktop computers Apple has invented since almost half a century ago until just a few years ago. As you see the years go by, you can see the computers becoming more advanced, complicated, and/or sophisticated. The screen size stayed about the same until about the 21st century. The pixel density obviously doubled and tripled over the course of this timeline. As you can tell, a new desktop computer was not created every year, but every few years. Sometimes it would only take one year, at others (Macintosh II - Power Mac 5200), they took 7 years. It is really quite amazing how the computer is designed and the software must have been first class to have become so popular.
Here is an aging timeline for Steve Jobs. As you can see, he wears pretty much the same attire throughout all the presentations he gives: Black shirt, blue jeans. One apparent observation you can see is his gradual loss of hair as the years go by. Some say it was because his father was bald, some say it was because of stress, but very few say it was because of a disease or cancer. What those very few people didn't realize is that they would prove to be right.
This is an evolution timeline of the legendary and well-known iPhone throughout the years. The first most noticeable differences is obviously, the display size. For the first 3 years of the iPhone debut, it stuck with the 3.5" display. Then, in 2012, when the iPhone 5 came out, people were pleasantly surprised to find out it had a slightly larger screen size of 4". Apple was praised for this upgrade and sold over 20 million copies of the iPhone 5 the first week. People were also glad to see that you could now elect whether you wanted your iPhone in black, white, or gold. Then, came its predecessor, the iPhone 5c , with up to 5 different colors. Finally, in September 2014, history was made when the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus came out with the largest screen iPhone has ever boasted. 4.7" for the 6, and a mind-blowing 5.5" for the 6 Plus. Although, with every great invention, there would always be some people to criticize, saying how it was too big, or how it bent in their pocket. Nonetheless, only 3 days after it's debut, Apple sold over 10 million copies! Talk about what the press has to say. Apple has struck it big, with copies of this legendary phone in over 30 countries. It is said to be available in 110 countries by 2015. It is available in black, white, and gold, and space gray.
And finally, here is an evolution timeline of iOS (Apple device software) since the very first iPhone to present. As the iOS system becomes more advanced, more apps are added to the home screen, making it look more high-tech and sophisticated. The wallpaper also changed from the plain black one to the bubbles to the water to the dynamics (moving wallpaper). It's amazing how Steve Jobs and Apple came up with these cool designs and new features that not many other phones at the time had, including multi-touch: the ability to use your finger to swipe, scroll, tap, and pinch the screen to get to different parts of the phone.
Let me include that iOS usually upgraded as the actual iPhone did, so you can see why the screen size suddenly enlarged.
